If your operation allows end users to ship on their own carrier accounts, you’ve likely encountered a common challenge: you want to waive shipping costs when a valid account number is provided — but not before. The new Exempt with Account payment type for carriers solves this by making the shipping exemption conditional. The carrier won’t be treated as exempt until the user actually enters a third-party account number at checkout.
Benefits to You
- Prevent unintended shipping exemptions by ensuring a carrier is only cost-free when the user has actually provided an account number.
- Keep the checkout flow intact — all standard carrier controls, such as field editability and required settings, remain in place alongside this new behavior.
- Configurable at both the portal and user group level, giving you the flexibility to apply this behavior wherever it fits your operation.
- Low friction for end users — the system simply checks that a value has been entered; no account number validation is performed, so legitimate users can proceed without obstacles.
How It Works
- In the back end, navigate to the carrier configuration at the portal level or user group level where you want to apply this payment type.
- Locate the carrier you want to update and find its Payment Type setting.
- Select Exempt with Account from the available payment type options.
- Save your changes.

Once configured, the carrier will appear normally in the carrier selection screen at checkout. The carrier will only be exempt from shipping charges after the end user enters a value in the Third Party Account field. If no account number is entered, standard shipping cost rules apply.
Important Notes
- Exempt with Account does not validate that the account number entered is real or active — it only checks that the field is not empty before granting the exemption.
- All other carrier controls (such as whether the third-party account field is required or editable) remain in effect alongside this payment type setting.
